Measure progress with more than one number
Words per minute is useful, but it is only one signal. Track accuracy, test duration and whether your performance remains stable across several attempts. A slightly lower speed with much better accuracy can be a genuine improvement.
Keep a simple weekly note with your average speed, average accuracy and one technique goal. Looking at a trend prevents a single unusually good or bad result from controlling your judgment.
Turn the idea into a habit
Good typing improvement is cumulative. The value of a technique appears when you repeat it across many short sessions. Avoid changing several variables at once. If you are working on accuracy, keep the passage and time reasonable. If you are testing speed, keep the conditions consistent. This makes it easier to understand what actually helped.
